Complex IT structures in the public sector require new approaches
With the growth in the number of customers and the increasing digitisation of public administration processes, Dataport was faced with the task of implementing a resource-saving, multi-client capable and manufacturer-independent print and scan solution in its data centre.
The aim was to create synergies in order to operate the infrastructure more efficiently and at the same time reduce the operating costs per customer - while fully protecting data sovereignty and client separation.
The solution had to ensure that the data of all authorities, institutions and subcontractors was processed strictly separately - both technically and organisationally.

Solution
A scalable platform for maximum efficiency and security
Working closely with Genius Bytes, Dataport developed a multi-client architecture based on a central Genius server installation that securely separates multiple client contexts. The core of the solution was the implementation of a software-based client logic that utilises a common hardware platform but strictly isolates data storage and processing per client. This allows Dataport to create a separate, individually configured client for each authority, organisation or sub-unit - including separate authentication, user management and rights concepts.
The Genius Relay, which acts as an intelligent control and monitoring unit in the network, plays a key role here. It enables cross-client control of data flows and solves technical challenges such as identical IP address spaces or network segmentation that would not be possible with conventional hardware components.
In addition, Dataport uses almost the entire Genius Bytes portfolio - including:
- Genius BPM for automating central processes, e.g. toner orders, OCR processing and archiving workflows
- Genius EAM for proactive monitoring and evaluation of system and usage data, including automatic alerts if threshold values are exceeded
- Individual reports and evaluations to efficiently analyse operational key figures and optimise internal processes
This modular solution combines the highest security requirements of the public sector with maximum scalability and at the same time significantly reduces administration costs.
